Les Kerr is a songwriter, recording artist and performer who has lived in Nashville, Tennessee since 1987. The Gulf Coast native brings blues, New Orleans music, Zydeco, rock and bluegrass together to create his “Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll.” As a solo artist and as leader of “Les Kerr & The Bayou Band,” he performs in Nashville and tours regionally and nationally.
A longtime presenter for Borderless Arts Tennessee, he has been recognized for his volunteer work and other endeavors. In additional volunteer activities, Les is the chairman of Nashville Public Television’s Community Advisory Board and has appeared periodically on air during NPT’s pledge drives. He is a former officer in the Society of Professional Journalists (Mobil, AL chapter), Nashville’s Music City Blues Society and the Tennessee Jazz and Blues Society. A frequent headliner at Nashville’s songwriting mecca the Bluebird Café, Les has performed Mardi Gras concerts annually at the historic venue since 1992. He has also performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville’s official Independence Day Celebration, the Country Music Marathon and the Southern Festival of Books. Regional performances include the Rockabilly Fest in Jackson, Tennessee, and the Princess Theatre in Decatur, Alabama. The video for the album’s title song of Les’ CD, Contributor, was included on CMT.com and played on video outlets worldwide. Composed by Les, the song was inspired by Nashville’s street newspaper and has been acknowledged by similar publications nationwide. I’m Just a Song, written by Les and Tammy Vice, is also the CD as a duet by the two songwriters. Les’ songwriting credits include co-writing Highlands of Tennessee, Cookeville, Tennessee’s official song, with Bryan Cumming. The two also penned For the Love of Ole Miss, commissioned for a $200 million fund-raising campaign for the University of Mississippi. Mackinac Blues, written and recorded by Les on his 2018 Part of the Show CD, was featured in NPR’s All Songs Considered radio program.
