An author at the age of 72, Edwin Garner began writing the events of his life. The autobiography, The Farmer’s Son – My Life—My Time, is a collection of events, happenings, history, and family.
Garner states that the book reflects a life filled with blessings, hardships, failures, and success. At the age of 16, he took over managing the family’s 1,000-acre farm because his father was suffering from heath issues. In 1980, he received a Western Union Mailgram from President Jimmy Carter. The mailgram invited him to a luncheon in the While House dining room, which included a briefing about the hostage situation in Lebanon. With approximately 100 people present at the one-day event, Garner felt honored to be selected to represent Tennessee. Garner contributes his success in finishing the book to his daughter. Whenever procrastination would set in, she would remind him that time was running out. Garner was born in the community of Coble in Hickman County, TN. He believes that being in the workforce is not the only way to live your life. He was a farmer for 27 years; owned his own business, CenTen AgriSystems, for 22 years; and has been a Bible teacher for over 60 years. Garner’s favorite books to read are the Bible and those about wood crafting. He enjoys fellowship with his family over a meal. His formula for a good life is two-fold. First, “trust and obey God” and second, “whatever you do, do it with all of your might.” |
