Chris "Froggie" Love

Chris “Froggie” Love began his career as a drummer by beating a chair with knitting needles while listening to records. When he was 13 years old, he began playing the drums. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Grinders Switch Ensemble.
Love has his mother to thank for introducing him to music. She was a music teacher of piano, guitar and bass guitar. To keep her students interested, she begam forming bands. After Love began drumming in the Hickman County Jr. High Band, he progressed to playing in some of his mother’s bands. Even though Love has not played very much jazz, the drummers he has learned from do. A couple of them are Buddy Rich and Paul Riddle. Since the 7th grade, Love has had the nickname “Froggie”. He would frequently get in trouble by making a sound in this throat like a frog. One day, his science teacher called him “Froggie”, and it stuck. It is now considered to be a stage name. As a teenager, Love’s drum instructor, Wayne White, said something he has never forgotten. “You will learn something from every drummer you watch. You’ll learn things you want to emulate, and you’ll see things you don’t. Drums add color to music, don’t over play.” |
